Job growth has continued
to press ahead in Charleston with more than 7,500 new jobs
created over the 12 months ending February 2007. According
to the Moore School of Business at the University of South
Carolina, job creation in Charleston for 2007 will be
approximately 9,500 new jobs. The area continues to benefit
from its economic diversity, the presence of the deepwater
port and it broad appeal to both tourists and those looking

• MedErr Data Application offers hospitals a service that aims
to reduce the number of medical errors and thereby reduce
rising medical costs and save lives. This company has chosen
Charleston as its headquarters and plans to hire 160 people
over the next two years.
• Belimed Inc., an infection control technology company
announced that it would locate its corporate headquarters in
the Charleston Regional Business Center creating 75 new
jobs.
• Swavelle/Mill Creek Fabrics, a fabric designer for the
home furnishings market has chosen Charleston for its
warehouse operations. The company credits the Port of
Charleston with its decision to locate in Charleston and the
company anticipates the creation of 60 new jobs.
• Lafarge North America, a buildings materials supplier
announced an expansion that will allow the company to retain
112 local jobs and create 18 new jobs.
• EDO Corp. recently expanded into a new 50,000 square foot
facility on Daniel Island servicing its core market of
battlefield communications. The company expects to grow its
workforce from 50 to 70 employees in 2007. • NAVFAC
Southeast, the naval engineering division based in
Charleston is to close its operation by October 1, 2008,
with the loss of approximately 400 jobs.
